Realizing
Our Dreams
For some of us it has been quite a long time since we attended or
graduated from Keren High School.
Much in us has changed. Much of the world around us changed but the
spirit, memory and nostalgia of the olden days is alive. This has
left some of us with the idea of forming a reunion lingering in our minds
although no one had voiced this desire for quite some time. However,
this dream came true when a few committed alumni of Keren Secondary School
came together to organize the first ever held “ Keren Secondary
School’ reunion in July 2008 in Toronto, Canada. By all measures
it was very successful in laying the groundwork for future events of such
nature. It rekindles the connection between the alumni of the school
and the beloved piece of their personal histories,
Keren Secondary school. However when
addressing in particular the Keren Secondary School needs we are faced
with a problem. The problem has to do with the political reality in
Eritrea at present. Obviously, the Keren Secondary alumni are
divided. I can only hope that all the alumni will assist in
addressing those challenges as we go forward.
The next re-union meeting will be held in Washington
DC, USA, in July 2010. We are
preparing for that. There has been a change in the address of our
web-site, from www.sweetKeren.com
to www.sweetKeren.net.
The focus of our new organizing committee will be to improve in the
outreach to all alumni wherever they are, with focus on the youth and
those who attended Keren Sec. school in the later years. While their
experience, memory and the time period spend at our beloved school differs
from those who attended earlier their energy, viability and experience
will be an asset. The organizing committee seeks the help of
everyone and particularly the youth. We stress that their
participation is crucial for the success of the reunion.
As president, Obama’s slogan states, Yes, We CAN!
We are confident that WE can! As your co-coordinator for the
activities for the up coming re-union in Washington,
I would humbly request all members to submit their suggestion(s), advise,
essays, or short stories reminiscing about their days at Keren Secondary
School.
The short stories should be captivating account of your personal
experience. Moreover, please attempt to contact everyone who
attended Keren Secondary School and who might be indifferent to the idea
and reluctant to join.
I am sure everyone has a story to tell, after all as Eritreans, our
life is full of stories, so let’s share.
I am confident with the mission and the vision we are carrying, we
can realize our dream
Thank you.
